Rooms of Matsumoto Honbako

Grand Suite with Open-Air Bath: A top-floor corner suite. We combined three rooms on the top floor to create a large suite with a view. On days when the sky over the Northern Alps is tinged with sunset, the large window is transformed into a giant screen that projects this natural spectacle right into the room. This view can also be enjoyed from the open-air bath, which has space for two people to enjoy a long soak together. All rooms in Matsumoto Honbako are equipped with bookshelves full of books curated by well-known individuals so you may enjoy encountering unexpected books.

Terrace Suite with Open-Air Bath: A corner room on the third floor. Since the hotel is located on a slope, the rooms on the third floor and above all have good views of the Northern Alps. A distinctive feature is an outdoor living area where you can enjoy the cool evening air and a cold beer after a hot bath. The interior design is similar to the Grand Suite on the top floor, but the bathroom is slightly smaller and the open-air bath is almost the same size as the standard rooms.

Panorama Suite with Open-Air Bath: This fourth-floor corner suite affords a great view of the Northern Alps. Enjoy conversation in the kitchenette, or curl up with a good book on the sofa next to the window. There is also a large desk if you need to get some work done. The interior design is nearly identical to the Grand Suite on the top floor, but the toilet and bath area is slightly smaller. Please note that the open-air bath is almost the same size as those in the standard rooms.

Corner Suite with Open-Air Bath: A suite room where the light coming in through the shoji screens is beautiful. The open-air bath overlooks the greenery of the garden and the Japanese style storehouse. The bathroom, shower room, and open-air bath are all luxuriously spacious. Another feature of this suite is the Japanese-style room, which becomes a meditation space when the door is closed. It is also great for curling up with a book or having a leisurely chat with your partner.

Junior Suite with Open-Air Bath: This room is located at the far end of the hallway on the second floor. There is a Japanese-style room, where you can lounge around with a book, and up to four guests can be accommodated by laying futons in this room. The open-air bath is spacious. With the trees and roofs outside, the room is a bit dark, but the light that comes in through the window in the early evening is mysteriously beautiful.

Yuzaka Twin with Open-Air Bath: This corner room, which faces Yusaka, is equipped with two beds and a sofa. With windows on two sides and a terrace, this is the standard room that gives you the best sense of openness. On one side of the terrace, there is an open-air cypress bath, and on the other side is a sofa and a reclining chair, where you may relax while looking out at Yuzaka Street. Please note that the wash basin and toilet area is not very spacious.

Designer’s Twin with Open-Air Bath: This room is equipped with two beds and a sofa, and also two study nook beds. These beds were designed based on childhood memories of playing in the closet. You can hideaway on the upper or lower nooks, curl up and relax with a good book. These nooks can serve as extra beds, and accommodate up to four people (not suitable for guests with claustrophobia). This room type is also equipped with a desk, making it perfect for a workcation.

Standard Twin with Open-Air Bath: A simple room with two beds. You can enjoy the therapeutic waters of Asama Onsen in the private open-air cypress bath on the terrace at any time. The living space is furnished with two easy chairs, where you can relax with a good book. All rooms in Matsumoto Honbako are equipped with bookshelves full of books curated by well-known individuals. You can enjoy encounters with unexpected books.
